It is estimated that about 600,000 South African are profoundly Deaf. Another 1.4 million have some kind of hearing loss (hard of hearing).
South Africa is divided into 9 provinces. As you might expect, the biggest provinces have the largest number of deaf people.
Gauteng, not necessary the largest but where the core business is located, Kwa Zulu Natal, Western Cape and Mpumalanga.
Most Deaf people are found in bigger cities, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
