Employment

With the new equity act for people with disabilities the private and government sector must employ people with disabilities, 2% of the workforce must be people with disabilities, DeafSA compiled an information booklet to assist employers with the employment of Deaf people and initiated training programmes to enhance the skills of Deaf people in the provinces.

DeafSA successfully trained Deaf people to further the skills in certain areas, in order to obtain employment in the area they were trained. DeafSA implemented the following projects to assist the Deaf people in becoming economically empowered.

Staff and Deaf Provincial Councils skills Development

Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority, has approved 2005-2006 DeafSA Work Place Skills Plan. And the formal training programmes will be taking place this year (2006).

MERSETA Project

Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA (MERSETA) has agreed to fund Gauteng Motor Mechanic leaner ship program. Currently they (MERETA) identifying the companies to host the learners.
